Abuse is evident when there is a hurtful pattern of behaviour inflicted by a person on another with the attempt to control, dominate or manipulate them. This behaviour may be:

• Emotional/Psychological – e.g. use of negative, sarcastic, demeaning or punishing behaviour or words with the intention to threaten, shame, coerce, and/or isolate a person.
